The Plateau State Government has urged Muslim faithful and other citizens to embrace peace, tolerance, compassion and mutual respect as they celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The call was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Jos by Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communication on behalf of the Plateau State Government, led by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.

“The occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the values that promote a peaceful and harmonious society, particularly where citizens embrace compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, mutual respect and regard for the dignity of every human being,” the statement said.

The government called on the Muslim Ummah and all citizens to draw inspiration from the exemplary life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad by promoting peaceful relationships, compassion and understanding across religious and cultural differences.

It also commended the Jos Annual Maulud Committee of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) for adopting the theme, “Emulating the Prophetic Way of Peace, Mutual Respect and Religious Freedom.”

The government said the theme was a timely reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold religious freedom, respect diversity and pursue peace, while urging religious leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote dialogue, reconciliation and responsible citizenship.

The Plateau Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with communities, religious and traditional institutions and security agencies to ensure peaceful celebrations across the state, and wished Muslim faithful a happy Eid-el-Maulud.
