Veteran Nollywood actor, Dele Odule on Wednesday paid a tribute to his late colleague and longtime friend, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his death as a painful loss that words cannot adequately express.

Odule, in a tribute shared following the burial of the veteran actor, said he had enjoyed a close friendship with Hassan for nearly 40 years, noting that their relationship grew from friendship into brotherhood.

The veteran actor recalled meeting Hassan as young men trying to navigate life and expressed gratitude for the decades of friendship they shared.

According to him, Hassan was a down-to-earth and free-spirited man who loved people wholeheartedly and remained loyal, generous and supportive of those close to him.

Odule also highlighted Hassan’s ability to connect with people regardless of their tribal, religious or social backgrounds, describing it as one of the qualities that made him deeply loved.

Speaking about Hassan’s career, Odule described the late actor as a legend and an “action man” who was deeply rooted in the theatre and film industry.

He praised Hassan’s contributions to Yoruba theatre, the successful actors and other professionals he nurtured, as well as the legacy he left behind in the entertainment industry.

Odule said he personally witnessed the widespread mourning that followed Hassan’s death, from colleagues and young people celebrating his memorable roles to residents of Ilaro, Ogun State, honouring him as one of their own.

He said the outpouring of love and respect from across Nigeria and beyond provided some comfort, despite the pain of losing his longtime friend.

“But I will miss you a lot Taiwo. I will miss the happiness you always exude. Who will Yinka and I banter with now?” Odule wrote.

He added that Hassan’s departure had created a void that could not be filled, stressing that the industry had not merely lost a colleague but a brother.

Odule further described Hassan’s life as one that left an “indelible mark,” while praying that Almighty Allah would accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

“Rest well my brother. You will never be forgotten,” he concluded.

Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was a highly respected Yoruba actor whose career spanned several decades across theatre, television and film.
