The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has pledged to collaborate with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to raise Nigeria’s crude oil production to three million barrels per day by 2030.

The newly elected President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, made the commitment on Wednesday in Abuja when he led the new leadership of the association on a visit to the corporate headquarters of the NUPRC.

Olabiyi-Agoro said the union was committed to supporting efforts to achieve the Federal Government’s production target, stressing that all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry must work together to make the ambition a reality.

He said: “The President of Nigeria has an ambition which he runs through the CCE, which is to make sure that by 2030 we are able to produce 3 million barrels per day.

“All of us have to work to make that happen. It will be our happiness to make sure that that target is actually attained.. We can assure you that we are here to collaborate. We will be very reasonable.”

He, however, said while the union remained open to negotiations and collaboration with industry regulators and employers, certain issues affecting workers’ rights would remain non-negotiable.

According to him, the right of workers to freely associate and join trade unions must be respected, while contract staffing would also receive priority attention under his administration.

“Inasmuch as we are open to negotiations, issues bordering on the rights of workers to freely associate and join the union are non-negotiable.”

The PENGASSAN President added that the union would focus on addressing issues surrounding contract staffing as part of its efforts to improve conditions in the oil and gas industry.

Earlier, the Commission Chief Executive of NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, said the Federal Government had been working assiduously to increase crude oil production, citing the latest executive order targeted at stimulating investment in deep offshore projects.

Eyesan said the measures being implemented by the administration had contributed to a significant increase in production, noting that output had risen from about 1.1 million barrels per day a few years ago to an estimated 1.755 million barrels per day in 2026.

She, however, stressed that sustained industrial stability would be critical to achieving higher production levels, urging the new PENGASSAN leadership to support the commission’s efforts.

“As you settle into your new role, be assured that the commission will give you 150% cooperation. In addition to the support we will give you, we want to ask that we work very closely to actualise government objectives.”

Eyesan said the commission was targeting an increase in crude oil production from the current level to three million barrels per day by 2030, while also seeking to significantly expand gas production.

“We want to grow production from our current level to 3 million barrels in 2030. For gas, we are still doing under 8bcf, and we want to grow that to 12bcf by 2030. So, let’s make that happen.”

She urged PENGASSAN to work with the commission to maintain industrial harmony and create an environment capable of attracting investments needed to achieve the government’s oil and gas production targets.
