Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has formally resigned as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), ending his tenure at the helm of the country’s football administration.

He did so on Thursday in Abuja during a press conference, following weeks of intense scrutiny over Nigeria’s disappointing results across various levels of international football.

The resignation came as the NFF Congress held an emergency meeting to address the leadership crisis and consider the future of the federation.

His departure came amid growing criticism of the NFF leadership after a series of disappointing results involving Nigeria’s national teams. The pressure intensified after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the first time the team has missed the tournament.

Several members of the NFF Executive Committee have also reportedly resigned, with reports indicating that eight of the 13 board members had stepped down. The development has raised fresh questions over the future structure of the federation and its planned elective congress.
