President of GLOBE Legislators International, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election for a second term is a matter of urgent national importance, stressing that the stakes are higher for 2027 than the 2023 presidential poll.

He declared that only a second term of four years would provide the President with the opportunity to consolidate, fine-tune and stabilize the many reforms that his administration began in the outgoing first term. 

 Onuigbo, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives, made the assertions while flagging off the Odozi-Obodo for Tinubu Campaign Movement, Friday, at his country home, Odozi Obodo Hills, Obuohia Obi-Ibere, Ikwano Local Government Area of Abia State.

 He stressed that it is obvious that President Tinubu has done remarkably well in repositioning Nigeria in the global economy, noting that since the country is still ‘a work-in-progress,’ the President deserves a second term to round up the good job he has started. 

   Onuigbo told the gathering that ‘YOUR presence is an eloquent testimony of our collective resolve to work assiduously for the actualization of the second term of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR in next year’s general election.” 

  He declared that despite the confusion and manipulation that trailed the APC Senatorial primary, he has decided not to go with litigation, remarking that he is determined to continue projecting APC, preserving the ideals of good governance and for the consolidation of Mr President’s reforms.

His words: “While I appreciate your unalloyed support, I want to use this opportunity to crave your indulgence for a committed approach to the campaigns for President Tinubu’s re-election for a second term in office. There are so many reasons why we should keep our eyes on the ball to achieve this singular target of a second term for Mr President.

 “The stakes are higher now than when we joined the APC, especially because of the bold and courageous reforms the President has initiated under the aegis of the Renewed Hope Agenda. 

 “Mr President deserves the support of every genuine Nigerian. I dare say that it is our bounden duty to keep supporting the President and work hard to ensure he wins the January 16, 2027 presidential election for the fact that he needs to consolidate on foundation already laid.”

 He told the team members to brace up for more hard work through the campaign, but also “recognise the fact that we are all partners in the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of Mr. President,” even as he enumerated some compelling reasons why President Tinubu’s second term is a matter of priority national attention.

 “President Tinubu GCFR, as a candidate for the office of the President, ran his campaign on very strong policies: ending a criminal enterprise of a parallel exchange rate market; making Nigeria a preferred Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination in Africa; ending fuel subsidies that only benefited less than one percent of our population; diversifying Nigeria’s economy; and running an inclusive governance, among others.

 “He took decisive action to end fuel subsidies on the very day he was sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 29th May, 2023, and was roundly criticised by the opposition at the time. Three years into his presidency, this is where the nation has found itself: Federation Account Allocation Committee funds distributed to the three tiers increased from N711 billion in 2023 to N4.5 trillion in 2026. Today, Governors are getting about five times more from FAAC funds than they received during previous administrations. These huge fiscal inflows to the states account for the rapid development that is impacting almost every local government in Abia State, and indeed, in all the States of the Federation. Our refining capacity has increased from 30,000 barrels per day in 2023 to over 700,000 barrels per day in 2026; Nigeria was struggling with crude oil production output of 1.3 million barrels per day in 2023, but today, Nigeria has exceeded its OPEC quota by producing over 1.73 million barrels per day; our foreign reserve has increased from $3.99Bn in 2023 to $51.9Bn in 2026; over N300 Billion invested in the students’ NELFUND; just to mention a few of President Tinubu’s positive economic impacts.

 “The President’s foreign trips have yielded over $50billion in foreign direct investment, and $20billion in 2026 alone. This has been attributed to his policy to end the parallel exchange rate market that “straitjacketed foreign investors” in the past. This is a measure of investors’ confidence in the ‘new Nigeria economy’, and this stability in the economy and rate of exchange has earned President Tinubu global commendation.

 “⁠It is really heartwarming that our GDP grew from 2.74% in 2023 to 3.9% in the H1 of 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, despite the disruptive war between Iran and the US. It is noteworthy that this remarkable growth is driven mostly by the non-oil sector of our economy such as: financial technology; agriculture and solid minerals. This is a clear evidence of successful policy on diversification of our economy.

 President Tinubu delivered on inclusive governance to the people of Southeast of Nigeria through a series of policy implementations: successive appointments of two service chiefs from the Southeast, the first in this regime was Vice Admiral Ogalla, and the current one is Air Vice Marshal Aneke; the establishment of South East Development Commission (SEDC) – chaired and staffed by the people of the Southeast; the establishment of new tertiary institutions in different parts of our region; proposed rail network that will traverse Enugu to Port Harcourt; the approval and the ongoing construction of Abia Airport; the expansion of the Enugu and Owerri airports; the approval granted to Southeast Governors to take over the reconstruction of some federal roads for quicker delivery, and subsequently reimbursed.”

 On a personal note, Onuigbo said he is particularly indebted to Mr. President for his administration’s decision to restore delisted management courses at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, a development he said created additional access to education for more students as well as saved existing jobs and created new ones in Ikwuano L. G. A, Abia State and wider Southeast region. 

 “The ongoing construction of Federal Secretariat at Ekeoba Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area after 35 years of cr3ation of Abia State is the jewel on the crown. I facilitated both of these projects to the glory of God. What is more, the President is reconstructing major federal roads in the South-East,” Onuigbo declared.
