As the 2027 general elections draw near, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asserted that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, does not require a coalition to win against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Friday.
According to him, the opposition coalition proposed in 2025, ahead of the upcoming elections, collapsed due to the exit of key members, which has altered the political landscape.
However, the ADC remains confident in its capacity to contest independently.

Abdullahi noted the coalition was initially formed to facilitate defeating the APC, but it did not develop as expected.
“One of the coalition’s leading figures has left for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with His Excellency Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate. We are part of the ADC.”
He emphasised, “We do not need a coalition to win this election. While building a broad-based coalition could ease our task, it is not essential for victory.”
Reflecting on the coalition’s inception, Abdullahi said, “We believed that a wide coalition would make it easier to defeat the APC, but that plan did not unfold as anticipated.”
