A 28-year-old cashier, Temitope Akinyemi, has been brought before a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations that she diverted N7.135 million belonging to her employer, Senna Atlantic Ltd.

Akinyemi was arraigned on Friday for a three-count charge bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant, who worked at the company’s office on Dipo Abe Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, committed the offences between December 1, 2025 and April 20, 2026.

According to the charge sheet, the first allegation relates to April 20, 2026, when Akinyemi allegedly left the workplace while an audit of the company’s accounts was being conducted.

The second count accused her of stealing N7,135,650 belonging to Senna Atlantic Ltd between December 1, 2025 and April 13, 2026.

The third count alleged that she collected the same amount from customers after representing that the money would be paid into the company’s account, but allegedly diverted the funds for personal use.

The charges were filed under Sections 168, 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, respectively.

The Commissioner of Police was listed as the complainant, while SP Philip Ademigbuji prosecuted the case. The charge was signed by the Divisional Police Officer of Isheri Olofin Division, CSP Opadola O. Elizabeth.

When the allegations were read in court, Akinyemi pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

The prosecutor subsequently requested an adjournment to allow the police to call witnesses and present evidence in support of the allegations.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs O. Kusanu granted the defendant bail, subject to the provision of two sureties who must show evidence of their means of livelihood and tax payment.

She was, however, taken to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned for further proceedings.

The allegations against Akinyemi remain unproven, and she is presumed innocent unless and until a court of competent jurisdiction establishes her guilt.
