The Chairman of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (MATFDAT), Muhuyi Magaji, has declared an uncompromising war against drug barons and users in the state, asserting that his team will not be intimidated.

Speaking during an interactive session with the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Magaji stated that the Task Force enjoys strong moral and financial backing from prominent politicians and businessmen, while Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf provides full support without interfering in operations.

Magaji revealed that the Task Force aims to remove 10,000 “bad boys” from Kano streets within one year, with a comprehensive plan involving rehabilitation, skills acquisition, and reintegration into society.

He emphasized that politicians cannot influence the Task Force’s work, adding that many are instead offering solidarity and resources to support rehabilitation efforts.

In a related development, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Zone 5 Command, honored Magaji as an Ambassador of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA). The Zonal Commander, ACGN Mohammed Ajiya, praised Magaji’s role in fostering inter-agency collaboration, public awareness, and community mobilization.

Magaji accepted the honor as a renewed call to action, stressing that the fight against drug abuse requires a united front—including families, schools, religious and traditional leaders, civil society, and the media. He called for stronger preventive measures and community-based initiatives, noting that the campaign is central to the developmental agenda of the Kano State Government.
