Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Aminu Yusuf, alongside 22 other civilians after foiling multiple kidnap attempts by suspected terrorists in separate operations across Zamfara State.

Aliyu Danja, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the operations underscored the military’s sustained offensive against criminal groups operating in the North-West.

According to Danja, troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force responded to a distress call in the early hours of July 28 following an attack on Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

He said the assailants had stormed Yusuf’s residence, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct the rector and members of his family.

Danja said troops swiftly engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee the area, while Yusuf and his family were rescued without injury.

In another operation on the same day, troops on night patrol responded to a distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where suspected terrorists were attempting to abduct residents.

Although difficult terrain initially slowed their movement, the troops reportedly pursued the fleeing gunmen, engaged them and successfully thwarted the abduction.

The military spokesperson added that troops simultaneously confronted another group of terrorists in the same community who had targeted a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria.

He said the intervention compelled the attackers to flee, leading to the rescue of Azaria and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring houses.

Danja further disclosed that troops arrested a suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf, 45, who is believed to have collaborated with the attackers.

He said the suspect has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and necessary action.

Danja commended the vigilance, courage and professionalism of the troops, assuring residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
