Nigerian Reverend, Christie Bature has weighed in on he discussion on early marriage, urging young girls to prioritise self discovery before tyeing the knot.

The minister, while speaking on The Fearless Woman Podcast, explained that biologically, the human brain does not full develop till an individual is 26. She added that entering marriage too early can become challenging when individuals are still trying to understand themselves.

Bature also noted that although she supports dating and courtship, she believes maturity and self-awareness are important before making the commitment of marriage.

“The human brain is not fully developed till 26. Some of the stupid decisions our children take, it’s not because they want to be stupid. It’s that the brain is not fully developed. A girl that is married at 18, 19, 20. They don’t even know who they are. And as they are growing, they are growing into themselves,” she stated.

The minister also shared her personal experience, revealing that many of her mates when she was younger, lost their dreams and purpose after marriage. She encouraged women not to put their ambitions on hold while waiting for marriage.

“Get into the business of who God called you to be before you marry. Don’t dim your shine on your way, say, ‘Oh, when I marry.’ What is he meeting you doing?,” she questioned.
