Peace Building Development Consult (PBDC) is set to award different personalities described as peace builders in celebration of its 22 years of existence in promoting peace.
The PBDC was established to advocate for, develop and promote a deeper understanding of peace and reconciliation in our world.
We started in 2004 as a research group that seeks to explore a wide range of conflict- and peace-related matters with specific reference to Africa and Africans in the Diaspora
The Convener, Kayode, on Sunday, while speaking on sustainable peace for the development of Nigeria specifically and Africa generally, noted that service chiefs, Governors of different states and many other persons and corporate entities promoting peace will be awarded.
Kayode, on the rationale behind the awards, said promoters of peace need to be encouraged for continuity.
He noted that the country would have been worse off without the support of some people who have lived their lives to focus on sustainable peace.
The Convener added that Nigeria needs more men to support peace building effort and the best way is to encourage those doing it already.
“We want to celebrate people who have contributed to peace in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. If people are not encouraged, they will feel reluctant to continue.
“Even though our country looks tense at the moment, without the support of some people it could have been worse.
“These are people who have lived their lives to ensure that they focus on sustainable peace in Nigeria.
“Our country needs more men to support the effort of peacebuilding. The best way is to encourage those who are already doing it.
“Such is mostly not visible when it is done. It is a long process. Remember, change doesn’t come easily but with a sustained effort.” He said.
