German Campos Jr. 26 of Franklin Park has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to six armed bank robberies in Chicago suburbs over ten months between October 2023 and August 2024. Campos brandished a gun at bank tellers and customers in five of the six robberies targeting US Bank locations in Schaumburg and Elmhurst as well as BMO Bank in Park Ridge and US Bank in Niles. He was arrested in September 2024 and has remained in custody since.

A Franklin Park man who spent ten months pointing a gun in the faces of bank tellers and customers across Chicago suburbs has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison after a judge noted the significant threat his repeated use of a firearm posed to innocent people.

German Campos Jr. 26 committed six bank robberies over ten months in 2023 and 2024 according to federal prosecutors. He brandished a gun at bank tellers and customers in five of the six robberies.

The Six Robberies

October 18 2023 — US Bank in Schaumburg Illinois.

December 16 2023 — US Bank in Elmhurst Illinois.

March 6 2024 — US Bank in Schaumburg Illinois.

June 13 2024 — US Bank in Elmhurst Illinois.

August 9 2024 — BMO Bank in Park Ridge Illinois.

August 28 2024 — US Bank in Niles Illinois.

Campos was arrested on September 17 2024 and has remained in law enforcement custody since that date.

The Sentence

Campos pleaded guilty in March 2026 to federal bank robbery and firearm charges.

On Wednesday US District Judge Thomas M. Durkin sentenced him to 14 years in federal prison.

Assistant US Attorney Stephanie Stern addressed the seriousness of the crimes at sentencing.

“Defendant’s repeated use of a gun during robberies including pointing that gun into victim faces over and over again posed a significant threat to the safety of the bank employees customers and general public. The only reason why defendant stopped his violent robbery spree was because he was finally caught after ten months of terrorizing bank employees and customers,” Stern argued.

The sentence was announced by US Attorney Andrew Boutros and FBI Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Ryan Whalen.

Franklin Park is a northwest suburb of Chicago in Cook County approximately 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.
