A governorship aspirant of the Accord Party for the 2027 general election in Oyo State, Hon. Olakunle Busari, has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, seeking to strip his opponent, Mr Oriyomi Hamzat, of the party’s governorship ticket.

Busari, in Suit No. FHC/IB/CS/97/26, filed on his behalf by his counsel, Tunji Ogunrinde, SAN, is asking the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist and remove Hamzat’s name, which he alleged was clandestinely uploaded to the commission’s portal by a faction of the Accord Party leadership, and replace it with his own as the authentic and lawful governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 general election in Oyo State.

Busari based his suit on the claim that Hamzat did not participate in the party’s direct governorship primary held on May 26, 2026.

He argued that having secured the highest number of votes in the direct primary organised by the party, the court should compel INEC to accept, recognise and publish his name as the winner of the primary election.

Busari is also seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognising, accepting or giving effect to the nomination and sponsorship of Hamzat, whose name he claimed was wrongly uploaded as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Oyo State.

He is further seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining Hamzat from parading himself as the bona fide and authentic governorship candidate of the Accord Party.
