The Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Education District II, Mr. Omotayo Layemo Sanni, has urged Nigerians to be tax-compliant as a civic responsibility, saying prompt payment of taxes is essential to improving education and delivering critical infrastructure  in the state.

Sanni made the appeal on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the ultra-modern Smart Zumratul Islamiya Primary School in Igbogbo, describing tax revenue as a major driver of government investment in quality education and other social services.

He said sustained tax compliance would enable the government to expand educational infrastructure, improve learning facilities and execute more developmental projects that directly benefit citizens.

He also called on corporate organisations, development partners and well-meaning individuals to complement government efforts by supporting initiatives that promote educational development and provide children with the skills and learning environment needed to excel in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary commended the chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Hon. Hakeem Olalekan Aroyewun, for initiating the Smart School project, describing it as a visionary investment that would strengthen the foundation of basic education in the community.

Sanni further appreciated all individuals and organisations whose support made the project a reality, noting that collaboration between government and stakeholders remains crucial to achieving sustainable educational development.

The groundbreaking ceremony attracted several prominent personalities, including Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom; Adeseye Ogunlewe; Kaoli Olusanya; and Babajimi Benson, alongside other government officials, traditional rulers and community leaders.

The Smart Zumratul Islamiya Primary School is expected to provide a modern, technology-driven learning environment aimed at improving the quality of basic education and preparing pupils for the demands of the digital age.
