Governor Charles Soludo of has described Assistant Inspector General of Police Ikioye Orutugu as a gift to the people of Anambra state.

Orutugu was Police Commissioner in Anambra state was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police few months to his retirement.

Soludo who stated this at the Light House Awka when Orutugu paid him a thank you visit noted that history was made in the state being the first time an officer is retiring in the area in active service.

“This is the first time an officer is retiring in active service from Anambra State. To say goodbye formally, with the full government paraphernalia in full session,” Governor Soludo remarked. “It’s quite emotional and almost impossible to believe that Orutugu is leaving us. Fantastic seeing all of you in solidarity. This is the very first time we are doing this in Anambra State .

“He is retired but not tired,” Soludo said. “Let me specially appreciate your mother and members of the royal cabinet from Bayelsa. You all gave Nigeria the gift of Ikioye. We want to congratulate you on your elevation; you more than deserved it. Very importantly, for me, he is a team player. You worked with your colleagues in the security architecture.

As a result, you produced the results you did. No one agency can get it all done. As you take a bow, we as a state hold this special session of the executive council in your honour.”he said.

During the Pull Out Parade the Command Headquarters, Amawbia, Orutugu charged officers and men to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

“Always be professional in the discharge of your duties. You do not owe your landlord anything, you do not owe any rich man anything, and you do not owe money. Rather, money should work for you. Never compromise your integrity because of material possessions,” he said.

According to him, a good name is more valuable than gold and silver. He advised officers to always do the right thing and never allow themselves to be influenced by powerful individuals or external pressures.

Orutugu paid glowing tribute the the journalists in Anambra state noting that without the media he couldn’t have made superlative achievements in the job of crime fighting.

“From the first day that I assumed office as Police Commissioner, the media took me as their own and worked with me all the way and as some point I wondered the over flow of love and dedication in assisting the Command in crime fighting “he said.

He further urged serving police personnel to remain independent in making professional decisions, uphold the ethics of the Force, and carry out their responsibilities without fear or favour.

AIG Orutugu expressed gratitude to the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Anamb9ra State Command, for their cooperation and dedication during his tenure, noting that their collective efforts helped restore peace and normalcy across the state.
