Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has issued a direct public appeal to US President Donald Trump, urging international oversight of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State amid rising fears of political tension and violence.

In a post published on social media, Davido tagged President Trump directly with a plea that has quickly drawn widespread attention across Nigeria and beyond.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.

The internationally renowned musician went further, broadening his appeal beyond the White House to the United States government and the wider international community.

He called for close observation of the election and active encouragement to Nigerian authorities to guarantee safety at the polls.

“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.”

Davido framed his message around clear, uncompromising demands, rejecting fear and bloodshed in favour of democratic integrity.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”

His intervention amplifies mounting anxiety in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship vote. Reports have already circulated of heightened political tension, claims of planned arrests, and warnings that the electoral process could be marred by intimidation. Security agencies have deployed thousands of personnel to maintain order, but public confidence remains fragile.
