Osun people are ready for change, Oyebamiji dismisses Adeleke’s popularity
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has expressed confidence in his chances of defeating Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, dismissed claims that his major strength was the alleged backing of the Federal Government, insisting that his support came from Osun residents.
Oyebamiji spoke at Arise Townhall on Tuesday, while responding to allegations by the opposition that his campaign was relying on “federal might” to win the election.
Oyebamiji said he had embarked on extensive consultations across the state and was convinced that residents were ready for a change in government.
“I have visited 30-plus local government areas in Osun State three times. Nobody has ever done that,” he said.
According to the APC candidate, his first round of consultations was to ascertain whether party members were prepared to take over the state government, while subsequent visits focused on campaign mobilisation and engagement with community stakeholders.
“I have to go and consult the party members if we are ready to take this government or not, and the response was overwhelming. Everybody responded and said that yes, we need to take this government,” he said.
Oyebamiji said he later visited the local governments to inaugurate campaign canvassers, adding that the exercise further strengthened his conviction that voters were seeking a change.
“I have to go around the local government to inaugurate those canvassers, and they were charged, they were motivated, and they were encouraged. It’s quite illuminating. You can see that our people are ready to take government from the dancing government,” he said.
He added that he subsequently consulted community leaders, artisans, market groups, civil servants and other stakeholders across the state.
“After that, I had to go again to consult with the canvassers, the community leaders, the artisans, the Yalujas, the Babalujas, and even the civil servants. And after that, I was convinced beyond doubt that our people in Osun are ready for a change,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate said he was confident of emerging victorious, regardless of the alleged influence of the Federal Government or other political forces.
“By special grace of God, I’m coming in as the governor of Osun come 15th of August 2026. This is something that is not far-fetched. It is not by any power, whether it is a national power or it is mighty power, it is by the people,” he said.
Oyebamiji also claimed that his campaign had received endorsements from about 42 sectors and groups in the state over the past two months.
“In the last two months, I have been endorsed by almost 42 sectors, groups and groups. The private enterprise, even the government, the civil servants are endorsed,” he said.
He listed traders, women, youths and other groups among those he claimed had endorsed his candidacy.
Oyebamiji further dismissed claims that his camp was worried about Adeleke’s popularity, saying he believed his professional and administrative background made him a stronger candidate.
“So I want you to just go and bury that idea of ‘marries’, because they are jittery. They are jittery because, of course, I can’t compare,” he said.
He added that voters should assess the two candidates based on their qualifications and experience before deciding who should govern the state.
“Put Bola Oyebamiji with his background and put the governor side by side, and you want to employ an MD of a private enterprise. Who out of those two would you pick?” he asked.
