Kano varsity debunks Sanusi carry-over claim

Northwest University Kano has debunked a viral claim that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended a lecture at the institution to clear a carry-over.

The university made this known in a disclaimer on its Facebook page dated August 10, 2026, and released by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim.

The institution said it had noticed a viral video showing Sanusi after attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university.

According to the university, some social media users subsequently attached captions claiming that the Emir had a carry-over and visited the institution to clear the alleged academic deficiency.

The university described the claim as false and urged members of the public to disregard the reports.

“The Management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has observed with concern a viral video clip of His Highness, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, PhD, CON, after attending a public lecture of International Humanitarian Law Society.

“It was an event held at Northwest University, Kano, which someone posted; while others added write-ups circulating on various social media platforms, falsely claiming that the Emir of Kano has a carry-over and that he approached the University to clear him of the alleged academic deficiency,” the statement said.

The university added, “The Management hereby categorically distances itself from the said video, write-ups, and the claims contained therein. The claim is entirely false, baseless, misleading, and without an iota of fact whatsoever.”

NWUK advised members of the university community and the general public to disregard the video, write-ups and related claims, stressing that they did not represent the position of the institution.

The university also warned against the creation, publication and circulation of what it described as false and defamatory content.

It said anyone found to be involved in creating or circulating the video or the alleged false claims would be reported to the relevant authorities and prosecuted in accordance with applicable laws.

“The public is urged to rely only on official communications from Northwest University Kano for accurate and verified information concerning the University and its activities,” the statement added.
