Confusion has surrounded the condition of Katsina United defender, Ozor Chinedu, after the 18-year-old player, who was declared dead following a collapse during a pre-season match, was later found alive in a mortuary.

Chinedu collapsed during Katsina United’s pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina, on Tuesday.

The defender, who recently joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars, was rushed to K-Dara Specialist Hospital, where he was reportedly pronounced dead by doctors.

Following the announcement, Katsina United issued a condolence message, while former clubs and other teams, including Heartland and Kano Pillars, mourned the player on social media.

However, in a dramatic twist, mortuary workers at Katsina General Hospital reportedly noticed movement in his body after he had been taken there.

He was immediately moved to the Intensive Care Unit, where he was placed on oxygen and is currently receiving medical attention.

According to Daily Trust, Katsina United media officer, Nasir Gide, confirmed the development, saying the player had been declared dead twice before signs of life were noticed.

Heartland FC, one of Chinedu’s former clubs, also confirmed the situation and urged fans to pray for his recovery.

As of Wednesday morning, the young defender remains in critical condition at Katsina General Hospital, with the football community awaiting further medical updates.
