Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (rtd), has called for the immediate arrest of politicians and clerics who make inciting statements capable of fueling violence.
Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, Irabor condemned a viral video showing Senator Francis Fadahunsi of Osun East allegedly urging his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Irabor stressed that such remarks amount to incitement and should not be tolerated. “Any time we hear individuals making inciting comments, such people should be picked up immediately,” he said, commending the police for inviting Fadahunsi for questioning.
The retired service chief also demanded the arrest of Islamic clerics Sheikh Sani Jingir and Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, citing their past controversial statements.
According to him, their rhetoric poses threats to national security and undermines the rule of law.Irabor emphasized that no one should be above the law, insisting that those who make dangerous comments must be held accountable to deter further incitement.
