The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University, India, has commenced an international training workshop aimed at strengthening stress management, emotional well being and psychological resilience among law enforcement officers in Nigeria.

The workshop, which opened at the FRSC national headquarters in Abuja brought together officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, alongside facilitators from Rashtriya Raksha University and other strategic development partners.

Declaring the workshop open Wednesday, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, said the programme was designed to equip law enforcement personnel with practical skills to manage occupational stress, regulate emotions, build psychological resilience and improve overall workplace effectiveness.

He said the increasing demands of law enforcement duties, coupled with regular exposure to road traffic crashes, emergencies, disasters, security challenges and other traumatic incidents, had placed significant psychological and emotional demands on officers.

He added that the mental and emotional well- being of law enforcement personnel is critical to their ability to make sound judgments, take effective decisions and deliver quality services to the public.

The Corps Marshal noted that unmanaged stress could negatively affect judgment, decision making, interpersonal relationships, productivity and overall operational effectiveness, making psychological resilience a strategic necessity for law enforcement agencies.
