President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, assured residents of Osun State of adequate security before, during and after Saturday’s governorship election.

Tinubu gave the assurance in Osogbo during the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship campaign rally where the party formally presented its candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.

The President was represented by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who used the opportunity to appeal to the electorate to join the government at the centre by voting the APC into office during Saturday’s governorship election.

“Let me assure all Osun indigenes that adequate security has been provided all over the state, to ensure people come out to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice without any fear or intimidation,” Tinubu said.

“Feel very free to cast your votes. My advice however is that you choose wisely because there is need to link Osun State to the centre. We are waiting for Osun to join us. I can assure you that nobody will molest you. You can only be molested on social media and not during voting.”

In his address, Akpabio said the turnout at the rally showed that the APC remains the dominant party in the state.

Citing the presence of former governor and APC interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, former National Secretary, Chief Iyiola Omisore, and Senator Fadahunsi, he said the party “has what it takes to win this Saturday’s election.”

Akpabio also thanked opposition figures who have declared support for the APC candidate, including former governor and PDP chieftain, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and the Osun Accord Party leadership.

“It shows that we are a peaceful party,” he said, adding that the Accord Party chairman had “accordingly” endorsed Oyebamiji.

The President of the Senate said he was “not impressed” by the condition of roads from Ibadan into Osun, and charged the incoming APC governor to prioritise infrastructure.

“Osun deserves more than this. Osun should be better than what we have now,” Akpabio said.

“Let me charge our incoming governor, AMBO, to ensure that he transforms Osun State through the provision of quality infrastructure and delivery of true dividends of democracy from his very first day in office.”

Other party leaders at the rally urged members and Osun voters to come out en masse on Saturday and vote for the APC candidate.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has scheduled the Osun governorship election for Saturday, August 16, 2026.
