At 12:23 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, Marquell Rose posted what would become his final words on Facebook. “I guess I’ll be the lesson everybody gotta learn from.” Less than 48 hours later, he was dead.
Rose, 29, of Chicago, known to friends and family as Quello, was shot and killed by a contracted security guard inside Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar in the 13700 block of South Claire Avenue in Robbins, Illinois, on Saturday evening after entering the restaurant armed and opening fire at a specific target, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The Last Post
Rose’s final Facebook post at 12:23 p.m. on Friday, August 14 read simply, “I guess I’ll be the lesson everybody gotta learn from”.
Friends and family who saw the post did not know then that those words would become a haunting farewell. By Saturday evening, Rose was gone.
Three Children Left Behind
Rose leaves behind three children. Noah, age 5. Riley Renee Rose. And Jamari Rose.
The mother of his son Noah shared her grief in a series of raw and emotional Facebook posts Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
She described visiting Rose repeatedly during his incarceration, traveling between Cook County Jail and Sheridan Correctional Center to see him. She wrote that she bonded him out of jail and made sure he was taken care of.
In one post, she wrote that she had to sit her 5-year-old son down and tell him that his daddy had passed away. She described Noah looking for his father on his phone, trying to FaceTime Rose, and becoming angry and upset when he did not answer.
She wrote that Noah will know who his daddy was and that she would keep his name alive and answer every question and hold him through every breakdown.
In another post, she wrote that no matter what we had going on, my son really lost his damn daddy.
A Coworker’s Regret
A person who worked alongside Rose posted that they had worked beside each other almost every day without realizing their mothers were best friends.
The coworker wrote that they knew they recognized Rose but could not place how and that now it was too late to call their mothers and say Guess who I work with. All these woulda shoulda couldas, the coworker wrote.
A Balloon Release Planned
The mother of Noah announced a private balloon release for Rose with family, friends, and loved ones.
She wrote that police would be on standby to help keep everyone safe and ensure everything remained peaceful.
She added that she had always told Rose she had him and that she meant just that.
The Shooting
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and a Robbins village spokesperson, Rose entered Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar as a masked gunman and opened fire toward an intended target.
A contracted security officer at the restaurant intervened and shot Rose. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant was inside the restaurant and suffered a minor graze wound while seeking safety. He was treated and released.
