The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of 295 individuals in connection with the violence that erupted during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

Confirming the arrest on Sunday evening, Force Spokesperson, Ani Iniedu, said two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

According to the statement, the 293 detained were released on bail after screening, while two are under further scrutiny.

New Telegraph reports that these arrests were part of extensive security measures aimed at preventing electoral violence, vote-buying, and other disruptions.

“During the election, 295 suspects were apprehended, and 293 have been released on bail after screening. We are holding two suspects for prosecution,” Iniedu said.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said its personnel did not arrest any suspects during the election.

NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the Corps deployed a comprehensive security arrangement across the state’s local government areas and wards to deter potential troublemakers and respond promptly to emerging security threats.
