Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has hailed the outcome of the Osun State governorship election as proof that determined voters can overcome attempts at electoral manipulation.

In a statement shared on his verified X account on Sunday, Utomi described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory as a triumph of the people’s will.

“Like in Kano in years before, the people proved that their will can triumph over the forces of rigging. Massive turnout and a fighting spirit can save democracy. On to 2027 in confidence,” he wrote.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke winner of the August 15 poll, securing 511,067 votes across 19 Local Government Areas, while his closest rival, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, garnered 444,815 votes in 11 LGAs.

Utomi’s remarks add to the chorus of reactions framing the Osun election as a significant moment for Nigeria’s democratic resilience.
