The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected hoodlum and recovered a locally made single-barrel firearm following a swift response to a distress call from members of the public.
DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, told journalists on Tuesday that on 17 August 2026, at about 1830hrs, the Command received credible information that a suspected criminal armed with a firearm was threatening a household at Iton Odoro Village, Ikono Local Government Area.
According to her, “Acting promptly on the information and in collaboration with vigilant members of the community, Police operatives mobilised to the location, where they successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect without any casualty.
She added, “The complainant alleged that he was at home with his family when the suspect entered the compound through the back gate and threatened them with the locally made firearm.
“The suspect, Emmanuel Okoyo, is currently in Police custody, while the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit.”
The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has commended the members of the public for their timely cooperation and the Police operatives for their prompt and professional response.
The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and criminal activities in their communities.
