The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Chima Ogumba, following an intelligence-led operation in the Nkpor Road area of Idemili North Local Government Area.

Ogumba was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on the morning of August 17, 2026, during a targeted operation based on intelligence gathered by the Command.

According to the police, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges. The suspect was reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.

The Command said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to identify and disrupt criminal networks operating across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough investigation into the suspect to determine his possible links to armed robbery and other criminal activities.

Police investigators are also expected to establish the source of the recovered firearm and ammunition and determine their intended use.

The Command said it would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations, proactive patrols and targeted tactical interventions aimed at preventing criminal activities and dismantling criminal networks across Anambra State.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues.
