The immediate past Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, has restated that his resignation from the position of Speaker of the 8th Assembly was purely for personal reasons.

In a statement made available to his media team, Hon. Agbebaku said he maintained a cordial working relationship with all 23 other members of the assembly throughout his tenure. 

“Differences will naturally arise because we all have our individual identities and beliefs. However, that did not stop us from passing people-oriented Bills and Resolutions in the last three years of my leadership,” he stated.

The former Speaker emphasised that his decision to resign was taken in the interest of peace, the state, and his immediate constituency, Owan West.

Rt. Hon. Agbebaku expressed appreciation to the Governor Monday Okpebholo, for his support and cooperation during his tenure. 

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and to the state.

He urged all his supporters to remain calm and to continue to believe in the greater good and the development of democracy in the state.

He also congratulated the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yekini Idaiye, and other principal officers of the House, and called for peaceful coexistence among all lawmakers.
