Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state Tuesday swore in the newly elected chairmen of the 20 local government areas in the state.

The governor also swore in Muhammad Tukur Adamu as Commissioner of Water Resources and 6 special advisers.

Speaking at the swearing in held at the Government House, Bauchi, the governor charged the new council chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate by providing effective, transparent and accountable leadership at the grassroots.

He enjoined them to prioritise the welfare and development of their respective local government areas, promote peace and unity, and work closely with their communities to address their needs and aspirations.

The governor congratulated the newly elected chairmen and called on them to regard their victories as a call to service and a mandate from the people, rather than merely an achievement.

He particularly commended the people of Bauchi state for their peaceful and orderly participation in the just concluded election, noting that the electorate had once again demonstrated their commitment to democracy by freely exercising their constitutional right to elect candidates of their choice.

He described the election as successful, peaceful and credible and commended BASIEC, security agencies, political parties, election officials, election observers, media and other stakeholders for their contributions toward the smooth conduct of the exercise.
