Preparations will soon commence for the formal turbaning of Kebbi State Governor,  Dr Nasir Idris, as Zannan Borno by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno.

The Shehu of Borno, who also serves as Deputy National Chairman of the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council, made this known when he received a delegation of the Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team on a nationwide advocacy and engagement visit to major media organisations and critical stakeholders in governance.

In a statement issued by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Kebbi State Governor, the royal father said the ceremony will be a historic and grand national event.

According to the statement, the date for the turbaning will be announced in due course.

The event is expected to attract prominent personalities from across politics, governance, traditional and religious institutions, the technocratic sector, and industrial and labour unions from within the country and beyond.

Shehu El-Kanemi said the decision to make the ceremony a national event reflects Governor Nasir Idris’s wide reach and associations.

He added that he has been closely monitoring the governor’s activities since he assumed office three years ago.

The Shehu particularly commended the governor’s cordial relationship with traditional institutions and religious leaders of all faiths, his engagement with government functionaries at all levels, and his holistic and productive approach to socio-economic and infrastructural development in Kebbi State.

“The demonstration of these rare leadership qualities by Comrade Nasir Idris has remarkably strengthened the cordial relationship between governmental, non-governmental, and traditional institutions in parts of the country.

“It has also commendably improved the well-being of the people of Kebbi State, while his efforts in confronting security challenges are commendable,” the Shehu stated.

The royal father also commended his counterparts in Kebbi, the Emirs of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Ilyasu Bashar; Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera; Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi; and Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, for their valuable contributions and support to Governor Nasir Idris and the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council.

He added that it was based on the governor’s exceptional leadership and the successful execution of impactful developmental projects, policies, and programmes that he resolved to confer on him the prestigious traditional title of Zannan Borno.

It will be recalled that the Shehu earlier this year sent a letter of conferment to Governor Nasir Idris, who also holds the traditional titles of Kauran Gwandu, Gwarzon Daular Usmaniya from the Sultanate Council, Kaura Nupe, Jigon Kabi, Gamjin Yauri, and Garkuwan Zuru.

Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the delegation and Kebbi State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, said the team was at the palace to pay homage ahead of their engagement with critical stakeholders in governance and to showcase the performance and achievements of Governor Nasir Idris in Kebbi State.
