President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Alhaji Hamza Usman Darma, a prominent politician and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State.
Darma died on Friday in Kano at the age of 76 after a brief illness. Funeral prayers were held on Saturday in his residence in Hororo, near Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano, following which his remains were buried.
According to a release by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late Darma as a personal friend and committed party member who will be sorely missed.
President Tinubu remarked: “I have known Darma to be honest and sincere since our paths crossed.
“He contributed immensely to the development of Kano State, just as he did to our progressive movement and to the APC.
“Importantly, Darma was a devout Muslim. Nothing must stand in his way anytime he hears the call for Muslim prayers.
“I mourn with his family and political associates. I commiserate with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Gida-Gida of Kano and the entire APC family in the state over this loss.”
He prayed for comfort for the late Darma’s family and Aljanna Firdaus for his soul.
