The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The actor, who had been battling stage 4 cancer, died after a prolonged health struggle, according to reports.

Ogogo’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, including the founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) awards, Seun Oloketuyi.

Announcing the news, Oloketuyi wrote:

“Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life.”

The actor’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, also confirmed the development during a live session on Instagram, bringing an end to days of concerns surrounding her father’s health.

Ogogo, who became one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema, was celebrated for his decades-long contribution to Nollywood and his portrayal of memorable characters across numerous films.

His passing has since sparked tributes from fans, colleagues and members of the entertainment industry, who have continued to celebrate his impact and legacy.
