Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has formally assumed office as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), succeeding Afam Osigwe, SAN.
Badejo-Okusanya was inaugurated on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the ongoing 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association. The ceremony was attended by senior members of the legal profession and other dignitaries.
Her inauguration marked the formal transfer of leadership from Osigwe, who completed his two-year tenure as the 32nd president of the association.

Osigwe administered the oath of office to his successor before formally handing over the affairs of the association to her.
As part of the transition, the outgoing NBA president presented Badejo-Okusanya with a handover note containing information to guide the new administration.
Addressing his successor, Osigwe said, “This is your handover note. A more comprehensive one will be given to you later. I hereby now out.”
She is the first woman to win the NBA presidency through an election and the second woman to lead the association in its history.
She won the 2026 NBA presidential election with 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the 26,106 valid votes cast.
She defeated fellow Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe and Olumuyiwa Akinboro.
The new NBA president is expected to lead the association for the next two years.
