American rapper J. Cole cancelled his scheduled concert in Sacramento, California, after a member of his touring crew died in a highway crash while transporting equipment for his ongoing tour.

The 41-year-old Grammy winner was due to perform at the Golden 1 Center on Thursday, August 27, as part of his The Fall-Off World Tour, but the venue announced the cancellation following the fatal accident.

“Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole’s show scheduled for tonight, August 27, at Golden 1 Center has been cancelled,” the arena said in a statement.

The crash occurred shortly after 6:05 a.m. local time on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, between the Zamora and Dufour areas, northwest of Woodland, according to KCRA, citing the California Highway Patrol.

A big rig carrying equipment for Cole’s tour overturned in the crash. The truck was being driven by the crew member who died.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The victim was identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office as Jarlath Parkinson, 66, of South Carolina, the newspaper reported.

Authorities said the driver drifted onto the right shoulder of the highway and lost control of the truck while attempting to return to the road.

“It’s unknown at this time, may have been a distraction or fell asleep. Unfortunately, the solo occupant did not survive the crash,” California Highway Patrol Sgt. David Barker said, according to CBS News Sacramento.

The Golden 1 Center expressed condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones following the tragedy.

“Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the venue said.

J. Cole’s representatives had not publicly commented on the death at the time of the report.

The cancelled Sacramento performance was one of more than 40 dates scheduled for The Fall-Off World Tour, which is set to continue on August 29 and run through December 12, when the tour is scheduled to conclude in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Cole has several other California performances scheduled, including shows in Oakland on August 30, followed by performances at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on September 1 and Intuit Dome in Inglewood on September 3.

Fans who purchased tickets for the cancelled Sacramento concert through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, according to Live Nation and Golden 1 Center.

Other ticket holders can request refunds through their original point of purchase.
