The Nigeria Police Force has arrested four medical doctors and other suspects over their alleged involvement in organ trafficking and illegal kidney sales in Nasarawa State.

The development followed concerns raised by the Martins Vincent Initiative (MVIO), headed by VeryDarkMan, after Abubakar Hassan approached the initiative over alleged kidney removal.

Hassan had earlier reportedly approached VeryDarkMan with his story, saying that his friend, Emmanuel Odeh, deceived him and lured him to a medical facility.

According to the police, Emmanuel Odeh, who was reportedly a victim himself in 2022, is now a suspect for recruiting and luring other people into selling their kidneys.

The police alleged that Odeh recruited victims under false pretences and connected them with people seeking kidney donors.

The victim, Abubakar Hassan, claimed that his friend Emmanuel Odeh told him that his kidney matched that of a recipient and took him to Wellington Clinic.

Hassan further said that after they signed some documents, they were later given money in dollars around 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The Nigeria Police Force said operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a sting operation at Altabalefi, Karu Local Government Area, at about 6 p.m., leading to the arrest of four suspects.

However, a renal transplant consultant at the facility maintained that the procedures were conducted with the donors’ consent and said the facility had conducted five kidney transplant cases since January.

The police said the suspects will face prosecution as investigations continue, stressing that illegal organ harvesting and trafficking remain criminal offences in Nigeria.
