Make Sanitation A Lifestyle, Not Monthly Activity, Odunmbaku Urges Residents

The Executive Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. David Odunmbaku, has called on residents to make environmental cleanliness a daily lifestyle, rather than restricting sanitation to the monthly exercise.

“Let us make sanitation a lifestyle, not just a monthly activity. A clean Ojodu is possible if we all do our part,” Odunmbaku said on Saturday.

The council chairman spoke while joining residents and council officials in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the LCDA.

Odunmbaku took part in the clearing of drainage channels and evacuation of refuse in Odebor Street in Ward C, Sorinmade in Ward B and Aboaba in Ward D, as part of efforts to improve environmental hygiene and reduce the risk of flooding.

He urged residents to take ownership of their environment by keeping their surroundings clean and complying with environmental laws, stressing that maintaining a clean environment could not be left to government alone.

According to him, regular clearing of drains and proper disposal of waste are critical to preventing flooding and safeguarding the health and well-being of residents.

He also directed council officials to carry out urgent interventions in areas where refuse had yet to be evacuated, ordering the deployment of all available council machinery to ensure that waste was cleared across the LCDA.

The chairman warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, particularly in drainage channels and other unauthorised locations, urging residents to cooperate with the council’s environmental initiatives.

Odunmbaku said his administration would continue to sustain the tempo of sanitation activities across the LCDA, while encouraging residents to maintain the same level of commitment beyond the monthly exercise.

He added: “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

The exercise attracted council officials and residents, who participated in drain clearing, waste evacuation and general cleaning across various communities in Ojodu.

Odunmbaku reiterated that the council remained committed to building a cleaner, healthier and flood-free Ojodu, calling for collective action from residents, businesses and community stakeholders.
