The Apex Igbo Socio-Cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged President Bola Tinubu to draw critical lessons from the outcome of the Osun State governorship election and strengthen his 2027 re-election strategy around measurable achievements, credible performers and leaders with proven records of service.
In a statement issued by the organisation’s Deputy President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Acting Secretary General, Professor Chibuikeya Achokawa, respectively, the organisation noted that the electorate were becoming increasingly conscious, demanding accountability and visible development that improves the lives of citizens
The statement noted that the era when elections could be determined solely by political structures, financial inducements or party influence is gradually giving way to a new reality where performance and public confidence remain the strongest electoral assets”
According to the statement, “Following the declaration of the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of the Osun Governorship Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ohanaeze Ndigbo observes that the election has once again demonstrated a fundamental shift in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.”
The statement noted that Ohanaeze Ndigbo believes the Osun election outcome serves as a significant warning signal to all political actors, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), that electoral victory in 2027 will depend largely on achievements that citizens can see, feel and appreciate.
The organisation therefore advises President Tinubu not to depend exclusively on political assurances from party structures but to build a stronger national campaign around high-performing individuals whose achievements represent the practical success stories of his administration.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide specifically recognises the remarkable efforts of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, whose commitment to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of critical federal highways has created a significant impact across the Southeast region.”
The organisation maintains that the ongoing transformation of federal roads in the south-east represents one of the most visible federal interventions in the region.
The statement noted that these projects have strengthened the confidence of many Nigerians, particularly within the south-east, that the federal government was paying attention to their developmental needs.
“The strongest pathway to success in 2027 is not merely through party structures, but through achievements that Nigerians can identify with and leaders whose performance commands genuine public support.”
The statement concluded that the Osun election has shown that Nigerian voters were becoming more independent, more informed and more determined to reward competence.
