Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has congratulated former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.), on his 85th birthday, describing him as a respected elder statesman and a significant figure in Nigeria’s political history.

Obi, in a birthday message, extended his congratulations to Babangida on behalf of his family and joined other Nigerians in celebrating the former military leader.

The former presidential candidate commended Babangida’s contributions to Nigeria, particularly his insights, commitment to national unity and experience in the country’s political development.

He described Babangida as an elder statesman whose experience and wisdom remain relevant to Nigeria’s quest for greater security, unity and prosperity.

Obi also prayed for the former military president to enjoy continued good health, happiness and peace of mind as he marks his 85th birthday.

“May Almighty God grant you continued good health, joy, peace of mind, and many more years of fruitful life,” he said.

Babangida, popularly known as IBB, served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from August 1985 until August 1993.

His tenure remains one of the most significant and debated periods in Nigeria’s political history.

The former military president has continued to play a prominent role as an elder statesman, with political leaders and public figures regularly seeking his views on national issues.
