Security, rural infrastructure, water supply, healthcare, education and agricultural development have been identified as key areas requiring the attention of the newly elected Local Government Chairmen in Bauchi State.

Governor Bala Mohammed said the new council leadership must consolidate ongoing development efforts and ensure that the benefits of government programmes reach residents in rural communities.

Speaking during the swearing-in of the newly appointed commissioners, special assistants, as well as twenty newly elected chairmen at Government House on Tuesday in Bauchi, the Governor said security remained a major priority because peace and stability were necessary for economic activities and sustainable development.

He said his administration had completed more than 800 kilometres of roads across the state, while over 1,000 kilometres of urban roads had been developed to improve connectivity and movement.

Mohammed said the government was also working with development partners and the Federal Government to provide rural roads linking farming communities to major markets.

He said the administration had supported farmers with tractors, heavy-duty equipment and agricultural inputs, while nearly 3,000 youths had been trained in modern agricultural practices and given start-up grants.

The governor also disclosed that over 1,100 solar-powered boreholes had been provided across Bauchi State, alongside measures aimed at ensuring sustainable water supply in the state capital.

In the health sector, he said the government had constructed and upgraded mega primary healthcare centres in rural communities, in addition to more than 1,000 primary healthcare facilities developed with the support of international partners.

On education, Mohammed said the administration had renovated and constructed primary and secondary schools as part of efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children.

He urged the new local government chairmen to work closely with the state government and other stakeholders to sustain the development drive.

The governor also directed officials to maintain high standards of integrity and performance, warning that corruption, incompetence and disloyalty would not be tolerated.

He said the ultimate measure of the new local government administration would be its ability to translate government policies and resources into improved living conditions for people at the grassroots.
