The Gombe state government has approved more than N523 million for key interventions in education and urban commercial development, including examination funding, academic staff support at Gombe State University and relocation of Tudun Hatsi Market.
The approvals, announced by the Commissioner for Information, Moses Kiari, are part of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration’s efforts to strengthen human capital development, improve public institutions and promote orderly socio-economic development across the state.
Mr Kiari said Thursday that Governor Yahaya approved N54.86 million for the conduct of the mock and special entrance examinations, known as the SSE.
He said the funding would ensure that eligible students could participate in the examinations under appropriate and well-coordinated arrangements.
Mr Kiari added that the intervention demonstrated the government’s commitment to maintaining an effective and credible education system and preventing students from being disadvantaged by inadequate funding for critical examination activities.
The governor also approved N118.72 million for the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the state.
The examination, which is an important assessment at the end of the basic education cycle, is expected to benefit from the funding through improved administration and coordination.
Mr Kiari said the approval was consistent with the government’s efforts to strengthen the quality, credibility and accessibility of basic education in Gombe state.
In the tertiary education sector, Governor Yahaya approved N148.76 million as the Consolidated Academic Staff Allowance (CATA) for academic staff of Gombe State University.
