The National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the public against dealing with Mr Abayomi Hunye over claims that he is the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, describing him as an impostor and a suspended member of the party.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, said Hunye’s recent declaration of himself as the party’s governorship candidate was false, unauthorised and intended to mislead the public.

According to the party, Hunye has not been a member of the APC in good standing since April 7, 2026, when he was suspended following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The APC said the suspension was initiated by the ward executives, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area chapter and subsequently approved by the Ogun State Working Committee before being communicated to the party’s national headquarters.

The statement alleged that Hunye was suspended for engaging in activities considered detrimental to the image of the party as well as anti-party conduct aimed at creating disaffection and division among members.

“Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity,” the statement said.

The party reiterated that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, emerged as the duly nominated governorship candidate of the APC for the 2027 Ogun State election, while Balogun Kudirat Abiodun is the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

The APC further stated that the names and particulars of both candidates had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 and relevant electoral guidelines.

According to the party, INEC has acknowledged the submission, thereby recognising Adeola and his running mate as the APC’s official flag bearers for the January 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

The warning comes amid a lingering controversy over the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State, following Hunye’s continued insistence that he remains the party’s candidate despite repeated denials by party leaders.

Recently, APC chieftain and former federal lawmaker, Hon. Kayode Oladele, dismissed Hunye’s claims and described Senator Adeola as the party’s only legitimate governorship candidate, arguing that all legal and party processes had been concluded in favour of the senator.

In the latest statement, the APC cautioned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political business with Hunye in the name of the party, warning that such engagements would be at their own risk.

“The Party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings,” it stated.

The party also disclosed that it had directed its legal team to commence contempt proceedings and lodge complaints with relevant security agencies over what it described as gross misrepresentation and impersonation.

It further urged media organisations to disregard publications, interviews and documents issued by Hunye on behalf of the APC and cautioned against providing him with a platform to advance what it called false claims.

While appealing to party supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, the APC said all official information regarding the party’s activities and candidature in Ogun State should be obtained through the National Secretariat and the Office of the National Secretary.
