Seven persons have been confirmed dead in the early hours of Monday August 24, 2026, following a fatal multi-vehicle collision along the busy Ibafo–Lagos corridor near Kara, in Ogun State.

The crash, which occurred around 12:03am, involved a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer, and a Mitsubishi Canter bearing registration number JJJ920YA.

While seven occupants died on the spot, two others survived with varying degrees of injury.

According to a press statement made available to Blueprint, by the Public Relations Officer for the FRSC Ogun state Sector Command, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, officers from the Ibafo Outpost Command responded within five minutes of receiving the report.

“Preliminary investigations by the corps point to excessive speed as the probable cause of the tragic incident, though full investigations remain ongoing.

“The deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured were immediately rushed for emergency medical attention. 

“The crashed vehicles have been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further procedural action”, the statement reads.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a quick recovery.

Commandant Ogunjobi however, issued a stern warning to commercial motorists and articulated vehicle drivers to observe speed limits, keep safe braking distances, and exercise heightened caution when navigating highways at night due to fatigue and reduced visibility.
