Nollywood actors and colleagues of late veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, as preparations intensify for his funeral on Monday, August 24, 2026 following his death on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Among those who arrived at the venue for the funeral prayer are his close friend, Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko,  Rafiu Balogun, Toyosi Adesanya, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, Femi Adebayo, and other colleagues from the Yoruba film industry.

The development comes as family members, friends, colleagues and members of the Ilaro Muslim community gather to pay their final respects to the veteran actor, who died at the age of 66.

Ogogo’s remains arrived in Ilaro on Monday ahead of his burial, with funeral activities scheduled to take place in accordance with Islamic rites.

The funeral prayer is scheduled for the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro, while a lying-in-state ceremony is also expected to take place at the Pavilion in the town.

The actor’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief across the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly among colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry.

Several prominent actors had earlier rallied around Ogogo during his health challenge, with colleagues holding a special prayer session for him before his death.

Following news of his death, colleagues including Jide Kosoko, Saidi Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin and Toyin Adewale paid tribute to the veteran actor, describing him as a significant figure in Yoruba cinema.

Ogogo was a prominent actor, filmmaker and director whose career spanned several decades.

He was particularly known for his contributions to the Yoruba film industry and his commanding performances in numerous films.
