The Managing Director of Ultimate Health HMO, Otunba Lekan Ewenla, has urged Nigerians living abroad to enrol their relatives, dependants and staff in health insurance in Nigeria rather than relying solely on sending money for medical expenses.

Ewenla made the call in London on Monday during a visit to Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Aminu Dalhatu.

According to a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday, Ewenla urged Nigerians in the diaspora to take advantage of the company’s Diaspora Health Insurance Programme to provide healthcare coverage for their families, dependants and staff in Nigeria.

He said enrolling beneficiaries would provide a more reliable means of meeting their healthcare needs, noting that money sent home for medical expenses was not always used for that purpose.

“Instead of sending money to their dependants back home, they should enrol them in the health insurance programme,” he said.

Ewenla added, “Such money is not usually spent on the health of the dependants which it was meant for.”

He also described continued reliance on out-of-pocket payments for healthcare as outdated, saying, “Out-of-pocket payment for healthcare had become old-fashioned.”

The HMO boss therefore urged Nigerians in the United Kingdom to enrol their relatives and dependants in Nigeria under the Diaspora Health Insurance Programme.

He also encouraged Nigerians abroad who employ staff in Nigeria to consider enrolling them in the scheme.

Ewenla was accompanied on the visit by Ultimate Health HMO Business Manager, Titilope Sonaike, and the company’s Lead Business Consultant in the United Kingdom, Otunba Arch. Mobolaji Falase.
