Nigeria has recorded another proud moment on the international stage as two young Nigerians, Maryam and Muhammad, emerged among the 50 winners at the 46th edition of the prestigious King Abdulaziz International Qur’an Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The achievement is particularly significant as the competition brought together 334 contestants from 133 countries, bringing together some of the finest Qur’an memorisers and reciters from across the world.

The Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Director: Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, in press statement in Abuja, noted: “For more than four decades, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has continued to promote Qur’an memorisation, recitation and study through the King Abdulaziz International Qur’an Competition, giving young Muslims from around the world an opportunity to demonstrate their dedication and knowledge of the Holy Qur’an.

“This year’s edition reached a new milestone, with more than SAR 10.26 million, approximately ₦4.1 billion, awarded in prize money to successful contestants.

“Against such a highly competitive international field, the emergence of Maryam and Muhammad among the 50 winners is a moment of immense pride for Nigeria. Their success reflects the hard work, discipline and commitment they have put into their Qur’anic studies.”

He said the Chairman/CEO, NIDCOM, Hon.  Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated Maryam and Muhammad on their outstanding achievement, describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and a beautiful reminder of the talent and potential of Nigerian youths.

Dabiri-Erewa said their achievement goes beyond winning a competition, noting that they have represented Nigeria with distinction and helped project a positive image of the country on an important international platform.

The NIDCOM boss noted that the success of Maryam and Muhammad is a source of encouragement to other young Nigerians, showing what is possible when talent is matched with hard work, opportunity and determination.

She further commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued commitment to promoting Qur’anic knowledge and providing a platform that brings together participants from different countries and backgrounds.
